I can confirm that this bug still happens using 3.8.4-5 I have a custom XML file that I use to change the desktop background every 10 minutes. What happens is that when the desktop background changes, the background of the overview doesn't. Moreover, the background of the workspace overview is different from the one of the overview itself. They appear to randomly change, at some point, but with no apparent trigger. I haven't tried, but shouldn't this be happening also with the default Adwaita XML changes-during-the-day background?
