Ok, it turned out to be simpler than I thought.  I just added
powerpc architecture and installed libc6:powerpc, and now I can
run powerpc binaries.

And I see the errors you're seeing, on my wheezy host.

Confirming the bugreport.

But it really looks like some issue with the dynamic linker.
