As letting dpkg handle it by asking the user what to do resulted in a serious bug from you, I've ensured that the file stays where it is and the user is not being asked at install time (which is the better behaviour definitely). And btw - the way the debconf stuff was handled before in the package (it was taken over from the former maintainer by me) was rc buggy, too. You might want to modify piuparts to check if there actually existed a (debconf) generated file before assuming this is a bug.
