The patches in https://github.com/jlehmann/git-submod-enhancements.git branch recursive_submodule_update are known to have problems in edge cases, but I don't think they'll ever be found and ironed out without testing from a larger audience. So I'm thinking of including the --recurse-submodules patches in the next upload to experimental.
