The current version of Icedove in Backports is maintaint by Mike Hommey, not by the Icedove Package Team. We currently only provide version 24 in experimental because we don't feel it is currently ready for usage without problems, as we see with by your bugreport. Anyway, it's a regression. We allready have another bug #724688 with the same symptom, a missed symbol in the libxul.so. We haven't found any time to work on it, propably there is something to fix while we link the libxul.so in the build of the Icedove packages.
