package gajim retitle 658905 fails to start it ~/.local is not writable severity 658905 normal thanks
Hello Thomas.First of all, sorry for the very high delay of response, I have taken over the maintenance of the package gajim and this bug is anterior to that.
Thomas Prokosch, 2012-02-06 18:33+0100:
In case gajim cannot create a subdirectory share within directory $HOME/.local, it fails to start with the following error message: […] In this case, gajim should revert to the default configuration and start nevertheless.
Yes, except here, it is not trying to save any configuration but some data. I am not certain that Gajim is supposed to work if it cannot write any data, but if you really want to work with a read-only /home file system, you may want to mount some tmpfs on that directory ~/.local, perhaps using aufs or unionfs?
I may forward this bug to the upstream developers, but they may consider it normal that Gajim does not work correctly under such an environment. Do you want me to try forwarding it anyway?
