Package: smartmontools
Version: 5.42+svn3561-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

smartmontools supposedly is licensed under the GPL version two, however,
to redistribute it, one has to provide the preferred form of the sources.

Smartmontools contains at least one file that is the result of compiler
output and thus not the preferred form for modifications without
delivering the source file:

   os_solaris_ata.s

This code is the assembly output of a compiled C source file
("solaris-ata-in.c") that isn't part of the distribution (it contains
comments explaining on why this isn't so - it's a deliberate attempt at
obfuscation).

I think to make it compliant with the license for debian, that file
should either be removed, or the source file should be made part of the
distribution.
