Hi! Thanks for your bug report.
Your report reminds me of a conversation with a fellow Debian folk that was asking me if bridge-utils were needed at all now that iproute has the power of creating bridges. I still think we need bridge-utils, but... the question here is... should we create the interfaces via bridge-utils or via iproute? What I know is that I don't want two ways of creating the bridges, one for specific hw addresses and other when this doesn't apply. I want all bridges created the same way. Having said that... I have to explore your idea, if iproute can assign it an address then why doesn't bridge-utils achieve it? Is there anything wrong on how iproute does it? I'll have to take a closer look at this and try to answer those questions and maybe others that don't come right now to my head. Feel free to provide any other info you have related to this issue and thanks for the idea.
