Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 1:3.3 Severity: normal The man page says:
--quiet Produce no informational output. But a section of the script still produces information output regardless. # update-flashplugin-nonfree --quiet --install already exists: /usr/bin/flash-player-properties already exists: /usr/share/applications/flash-player-properties.desktop already exists: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/flash-player-properties.png already exists: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/flash-player-properties.png already exists: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/flash-player-properties.png already exists: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/flash-player-properties.png already exists: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/flash-player-properties.png already exists: /usr/share/pixmaps/flash-player-properties.png Looking at the update-flashplugin-nonfree script I wonder about this section. It copies files into place unless like the above the target files already exist. And yet these are files that are owned by the package and not expected to be edited by a local admin. They are not conffiles. Shouldn't the install always update these files? I think it is unexpected that it does not. I propose that this section should always overwrite these files even if they previously existed. And then there won't be information output produced with --quiet either. It would be nicest if it did a binary compare and only updated the files if the binary contents were either different or if the target did not exist. That way there would not be spurious file system changes (from aide or other tools) for these files if there are no actual changes. Thank you for maintaining the package!
