I think the Debian packagers (of which I'm not one, to be clear; I just
watch the bug traffic since we use Heimdal extensively) packaged a
development snapshot in anticipation of the 1.6 release, which was
supposed to be forthcoming.  I believe it has some features that are
needed/desirable for Samba.  Unfortunately, various bugs were found in the
development branch and 1.6 never stabilized enough to be released.
