I confirm this bug which is open since 2011. If anyone touches this, maybe we should also say RUN_DAEMON=no by default (especially if the bug is not fixed)? I have a feeling few users just install this and wait for the daemon to inform them that the RAID array has problem. A monitoring/alerting infrastructure quite possibly exists already if you have MPT controllers and duplicating it is probably unwanted behaviour anyway.
