In fact, gem2deb doesn't need .gemspec files: the metadata.yml files are enough to make gem2deb happy. So no need to copy the gemspec files around, and a > override_dh_auto_install: > dh_auto_install > rm -rf debian/ruby-rspec-core/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/autotest/ is enough.
