reassign 727758 cups affects 727758 + libdbus-1-3 thanks On Sat, 26 Oct 2013 at 11:37:44 +0200, Michael Meskes wrote: > Most of the times cups comes up I get this: > > Oct 25 20:27:57 aragorn kernel: [ 389.581166] cupsd[2937]: segfault at 8 ip > 00007faeb7c98cd0 sp 00007fff18af7148 error 4 in > libdbus-1.so.3.7.5[7faeb7c72000+45000]
Having thought about this some more, I'm going to reassign this to cups. I'm quite prepared for it to be reassigned back if it turns out to be a dbus bug, but we can't know that - or how to fix it - without more information, and the cups maintainers are likely to know much more about how to get that information than I do. Please reply to this bug with the result of "reportbug --template cups" so the cups package's full dependencies, and any other useful info from reportbug scripts, are visible. If an executable is crashing in a way that might implicate a library, it's likely to be best to report it initially as a bug in the executable (ideally with a cc to the library's @packages.debian.org address), unless you have a minimal test-case demonstrating that it is in fact a bug in the library. That way, the bug report already contains the executable's full dependencies and other relevant information from its bug scripts, and it'll be triaged by someone who knows how to get debug information from that particular executable. The proposed HOWTO_BUGREPORT documents in <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717596> might explain how you can provide enough information for this crash to be diagnosed and fixed. >From a quick look at the cups bug list, your crash might be related to one of these, for instance: <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=682206> (crash in libdbus possibly caused by cups passing a dangling string pointer to libdbus functions, which also has some notes about how to get a backtrace or core dump) <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=634937> (segfault in libavahi-common (which uses libdbus), closed because unreproducible) Regards, S -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
