I guess that the old /usr/share/doc/crip/examples/criprc_example.gz
(which I used for my ~/.criprc) was either wrong or too old or
whatever.

Just copied the current /usr/share/doc/crip/examples/criprc_example.gz
to ~/.criprc (and noticed many changes), edited the file and ...
... everything works!

I guess we can close the bug now; thanks for the quick solution. - I
