Package: amd64-microcode
Version: 2.20131007.1+really20130710.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I am part of the people working on Tails [1], a Debian Live system.
We want to provide microcodes updates at boot time for as many CPU:s
as possible.

As far as I understand it, the current amd64-microcode initramfs-tools
hook only embeds the AMD microcodes into the initramfs image if the
CPU seen at initramfs build time is an AMD one.

Obviously, in the case of a Live system, the CPU used at the time the
ISO is built is irrelevant wrt. the CPU that actual end-users will be
running the system on.

On the other hand, the intel-microcode hook allows to disable
auto-detection, and to force inclusion of all microcode updates.
It would be awesome, for users of Debian Live systems who happen to
have AMD CPU:s, if amd64-microcode allowed the same.

Thanks for maintaining amd64-microcode in Debian!

Cheers,
