Thanks for the info. AFAIK desktops tend to use PulseAudio/Alsa or plain Alsa rather than OSS, so it may make sense to be sure the Alsa plugin is available. I would also suggest writing something on the standard output when neither Alsa nor OSS can be properly initialized, WDYT? Cheers!
