It would probably be ideal for the default bitlbee configuration to be
a daemon listening on 127.0.0.1:6667 or similar, since I imagine most
people will just be running on the same machine that they run their
IRC client on.

This would mean installing a init.d script that would start bitlbee
and making it trivial to disable in favor of inetd for more complex
setups. [This would also be a far more secure default setting than
what is the current default.]
