It's interesting that gnash plays all YouTube videos for you. I followed your step by step instructions, more or less exactly. The good news? RMS's Free Software Song played. The bad news? Right clicking on the video popped open a menu that said it was in HTML5. It's nice to be able to watch HTML5, but I found a video (of world renowned sociologist, Al Bundy) that YouTube still served as flash at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXfN7iNbbho The first video frame and progress bar were still eventually rendered, but, like before, left clicking on the play arrow only causes the progress bar to creep rightward, without playing the video. Right clicking on the video pops open a gnash menu. If you happen to have the time, and are so inclined, I'd be interested in 1.) what happens when you try to play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXfN7iNbbho 2.) and whether you'd like the big log file now.
