I deleted kmix (which refused to start) and installed the "veromix" applet to get volume control. This solved my two issues:
1. no volume control because kmix did not start 2. the desktop system was freezed until the kde greeting sound, maybe, I guess, because kmix was trying to start (now the desktop system is responsive and ready to start programs before the kde greeting sound). I Hope this helps. -- On this laptop no Windows system survives and Linux Power reigns Unlimited. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
