I prefer using mechanisms provided upstream, as this is easier on the Debian infrastructure - which is not built to distribute huge amounts of data, IMO. Also note that the proposed packages don't replace the terrasync solution, which is capable of downloading scenery on the fly (literally). You can't do that (easily) with a package approach.
