Hello, I've got the same problem with Yahoo! contacts, but it only appears after adding a _new_ contact with centericq (via the search interface), nevertheless chatting with that person worked.
After wondering, why it didn't work, I tested it with GAIM... and I saw, that the contact wasn't in the server-side contact list (seems like centericq added it locally only). I successfully added the contact with GAIM to the server-side list and then tried again with centericq... and it worked! The contact now appeared as online. It seems, that centericq's Yahoo! support has some problems in modifying the server-side contact list, especially adding new contacts. I hope this information will help somehow.
