patch which would work across all other architectures as well would be welcome!
FWIW atm it built just fine across all supported architectures just
recently

7.3-1: alpha amd64 armel armhf hurd-i386 i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 
m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 s390x sparc
