Package: nbd-client Version: 1:3.3-3 Severity: normal I have some diskless clients that boot from NFS. I'm experimenting with booting them from a squashfs image exported over NBD.
Some of the clients have a NIC (r8169 driver) that takes some time to settle and detect the link. On these, booting from NBD often fails because ipconfig runs and gives up before eth0 has appeared or before the link comes up. NFS works because the initramfs script calls wait_for_udev before configure_networking (/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/nfs:62). Adding this call to nbd-client's initramfs script fixes the problem for me.
