Hi,

hitting the same problem, it looks like the error message is actually a bug in bash. Probing the postinst script, I incidentally found out that my default /bin/sh is pointing to bash instead of dash and the script works in dash correctly.

PS: I am not sure how bash happened to be my default shell, I do not remember confirming such selection, while I do remember switching to dash long time ago. Anyway, to fix that one just needs to run `dpkg-reconfigure dash` and confirm it to be the default system shell (hope it will survive future bash and dash updates...)

Cheers,
Pavel
