Looking a bit more at the debian source package I discovered that it comes from upstream's configure.in which includes (line 20):
AM_DISABLE_STATIC Removing that line enable compilation of the .a. Debian policy is not clear on the subject, but seems to assume that almost every shared libraries includes also a .a, while the contrary is not true. Could you please remove the AM_DISABLE_STATIC from upstream's configure.in and ship the .a? -- Stefano Zacchiroli -*- Computer Science PhD student @ Uny Bologna, Italy [EMAIL PROTECTED],debian.org,bononia.it} -%- http://www.bononia.it/zack/ If there's any real truth it's that the entire multidimensional infinity of the Universe is almost certainly being run by a bunch of maniacs. -!-
