After successfully being able to boot Windows 8 and and GNU/Linux using the Wheezy Debian Installer, an update of grub-efi-amd64 left me with a grub rescue prompt after a reboot. First time was after installing Wheezy. The workaround is: 1) Boot in rescue mode from a Wheezy/Jessie/Sid CD/DVD/netinst image. 2) mount /dev/sda? (2 in my case) containing /boot/efi with an installer rescue shell. 3) Make a backup of /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi 4) cp -p /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi 5) Reboot happily :) (I think this should be documented somewhere, especially if this bug does not result in any change) Please install /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi also in /boot/efi/EFI/boot/ named boot64.efi. On my computer, and Acer Predator G362,0 the UEFI boot loader is looking there for that file not in the debian directory! This issue was discussed on debian-boot in May, starting at http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2013/05/msg00236.html and in bug #708430, entitled: "need to also install grub to the removable media fallback path?", regarding problems with a Toshiba box (and my Acer). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
