The mpich "transition" just went in last week, so over the weekend I wrestled with BuildSystem a bit and have a package ready now. I've uploaded it, but it could take some time to clear the NEW queue; in the meantime, you can get its pieces at http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/petsc/ It's still linked with mpich, no change there.
