Thanks for clarifying.

Sounds like we disagree on this one --- I think git-all has correct
dependencies for the goal of installing git as provided upstream,
while if I understand you correctly, it is failing for you at
installing some appropriate subset of that.

So reopening. :)

Maybe a good approach would be to use Recommends for contrib/ code and
Depends for everything else?  That would mean that in the long term
git-bzr would become a Depends but in the short term since it is not
installed by "make install" it can be a Recommends.

Of course taking that approach all the way would mean moving the bash
completion script to a separate package and making it only a
Recommends.  So I dunno.
