So, as per my understanding, there is no confirmed positive impact of this
patch, and on the other hand there is a confirmed negative impact
(confirmed by me as well).
In this case, if I was in the maintainer's place, I'd remove the patch and
wait for reports that might be relative to this patch and fix it
appropriately
afterwards.
