I've never packaged anything for Java since I don't use it. Is there a complex Debian Java mini-policy to adhere to?
In short, if this is something you need and can provide, go ahead and need me the patch. Should this wait until post-sarge?
Hi Peter,
well its a dependency for a future debian gis package. The package JGrass is a java frontend to the grass gis system. I will prepare a
packaging patch - so you should not have any work with it.
Just for your interest the current debian java policy can be found at: http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/java-policy/
Regarding if it should wait until post-sarge: Well, I don't know when sarge will be released and for every package we can get into sarge we don't have to provide backports.
I am in contact with the upstream developer of the jni interface. So I will ask there if the compilation of the jni interface into the proj binary can break things. If there is a possiblity to break things I think we should wait post sarge, but If there shouldn't be any breakage I would like to consider it for sarge.
I will keep you informed. Thanks for considering this wishlist report.
Regards,
Wolfgang
