So it seems that using gnutls 3.0 doesn't fix the linking problem and that the latest upstream gnutls code is still buggy.
My last guess at this (short of debugging the gnutls code further) is to try to use the OpenSSL compability mode of gnutls. This will probably require changes to the toolchain, but may work better... A. --
