Yes - i agree. But you have no influence which chip is used when you buy an adapter or interface cable. There are millions out there for mobiles, GPS, PDA, etc. It's a pity when you can't connect your device because the usb serial chip is not supported in Linux. (When you have a newer device you will find out that bluetooth is not working correct also.)
