I'm cc'ing the bug, as this information might be useful to others.

I have not investigated this problem personally yet. I'll look into it
and see if it has been fixed in newer versions of password-gorilla;
I'll update the bug report with my findings.

Good to know this workaround works for you in the meantime :)
