This affects me as well. I have reported a similar bug against cdo,
which also depends on a specific variant of hdf5 (libhdf7-openmpi-7).
The fact that they depend on mutually exclusive versions of HDF5 means
that libgdal1-dev and cdo cannot be installed on the same system using
the debian package management system, which is a rather serious problem.
It would seem that changing the packages to depend on libhdf5-dev would
fix this neatly. Please fix this as soon as possible, as this causes
real operational problems for us, and has obviously been a problem for
quite some time.
Thank you,
David Bronaugh
