If possible it would be nice to check if you still experience your issue with the latest nedit in Debian and would follow up to the bug. If it still is a problem I am going to spend time on these bugs again to try harder to reproduce the issue.
I haven't used Nedit lately due to the accumulation of bugs hampering my use of it. I still have my configuration file, though, and I can't seem to reproduce this problem with the version from wheezy (1.5.6~cvs20081118-7).
