I just pushed those changes to the git packaging repository. Yes, Please. If you can do that, that'll help. Please feel free to upload. I had intended to do it over the weekend but all my time got eaten into some other build failure problems. As for the fix, the reporter in bug #704073 has confirmed that those changes fix the bug.
