If "gnome" meta package consists of packages A, B, C, X, Y, and "gnome-core" consists of X and Y, then as far as I understand, a way to fix this would be:
- Make gnome-core recommend A, B, C (but still depend on X, Y). - Make debian installation manually install "gnome-core" instead of "gnome", when choosing the gnome flavor. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
