pngcheck has "libpng12-0" in Depends in debian/control. As far as I can tell, this shared library is not used by pngcheck at all. (And even if it was used, then pngcheck should link to it, so that dpkg-shlibdeps generates the dependency automatically.)
This is the major problem, and it still unfixed. Hardcoded dependencies like this one will hinder the future libpng12->libpng15 transition.
