Package: debhelper
Version: 9.20120909
Followup-For: Bug #562874

Hello,

I'm the current maintainer of html2text (which was under RFA for years
and going to become orphaned very soon).

Please consider dropping (or downgrading) the dependency on html2text in
the long run. Its upstream is gone long ago. Though in years 2008-2009
there was a Debian-speficic attempt to add/improve Unicode and recoding
support and fix some old bugs, there are still problems.

If only 0.3% of our packages actually need this converting, I would
suggest that those packages start build-depend on html2text (or
something else as there are some alternatives in the archive which may
work better in some situations) and handle converting themselves as
needed. For certain cases, even if stock html2text is used, packages
definitely would want to pass (some of) -utf8 / -nometa / -width options
to produce correct and/or more readable result.

Last but not the least, I just received a bug report which says that
bootstrapping debhelper is a bit harder than it could be since
people have to port also html2text's build dependencies.
