Yep, it's the theme.... setting it back to Adwaita and things work again... it seems this (setting it back) is however only possible with the downgraded packages...
After upgradin to 3.8 I tried Clearloks-Phenix again... and immediately all open GNOME programs crashed... even using gsettings set on the console didn't work.. (some dbus error occured) Cheers, Chris.
