Package: anacron Version: 2.3-19 Severity: important Dear Maintainer,
I have a fresh wheezy install and there are several items in /etc/cron.daily/: root@spot:/home/martins# ls -l /etc/cron.daily/ total 56 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 311 May 23 2012 0anacron -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14985 Mar 14 18:18 apt -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 314 Nov 7 2012 aptitude -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 355 Jun 11 2012 bsdmainutils -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 256 Mar 18 16:52 dpkg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 583 Jun 3 2012 etckeeper -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 89 May 17 2012 logrotate -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1365 Jun 19 2012 man-db -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 606 Sep 25 2010 mlocate -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 249 May 26 2012 passwd -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 632 May 15 16:12 z-local When the system boots I see this in syslog: May 24 07:37:42 spot anacron[2372]: Anacron 2.3 started on 2013-05-24 May 24 07:37:42 spot anacron[2372]: Will run job `cron.daily' in 5 min. May 24 07:37:42 spot anacron[2372]: Jobs will be executed sequentially However, the job does not run. If I check for an anacron process shortly after boot there isn't one. It looks like anacron exits without running cron.daily. Later, I do "service anacron start" and I see this in syslog: May 24 09:35:07 spot anacron[3650]: Anacron 2.3 started on 2013-05-24 May 24 09:35:07 spot anacron[3650]: Will run job `cron.daily' in 5 min. May 24 09:35:07 spot anacron[3650]: Jobs will be executed sequentially May 24 09:40:07 spot anacron[3650]: Job `cron.daily' started May 24 09:40:07 spot anacron[3989]: Updated timestamp for job `cron.daily' to 2013-05-24 So clearly the job can be run by anacron. There doesn't look to be a misconfiguration anywhere. systemd is not installed. This is a desktop system that is never on battery power.
