This is a known issue, see #619071, #677609, #695747 (and the dozen or so bugs on launchpad, for ubuntu) for the crashes and #679837 for Suzanne being incorrectly rendered. I'll prepare a backport of stk 0.8 for wheezy users soon. Of course, if you're willing to dig into this further, I'd gladly accept non-intrusive patches (i.e. acceptable for a stable update) to fix whatever's causing this issue in irrlicht/stk.
