The big confusion is that no one in Sweden will understand "Förenade Kungariket" this is not ever used in normal Swedish to refer to United Kingdom. That means that it will not be understood.
I check Förenade kungariket in the Swedish National Encyclopedia, (NE). "Förenade kungariket, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, från 1927 officiell beteckning för den politiska sammanslutningen mellan Storbritannien och Nordirland. " This is as you say the official name forUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Irelandbut it's from 1927 and it is not used in the normal Swedish language. I have asked a lot of people around me and nobody have ever heard that expression so it will not be understood. Second, because most of Swedish people will say "England" when referring to United Kingdom even if it's formally wrong so I checked "England" in (NE) " England, formellt ett kungadöme men egentligen ett delområde i Förenade kungariket Storbritannien och Nordirland (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), dvs.(med gängse språkbruk) Storbritannien." Translated it says among other that "Förenade kungariket Storbritannien .... (with normally used language) Storbritannien". That means that for all normal Swedish people Storbrittanien is the word to use if you want to be understood, but if you want to be strictly formal you shall write "Förenade Kungariket Storbritannien och Nordirland". If you only write Förenade Kungariket it will not be understood correctly. Best regards, Ola
