It's unprobably that it has something to do with the Debconf menu thing,
as this has been deaktivated before the Woody release some years ago :)

So currently I cannot tell you what went wrong except, that dpkg will
have asked you during upgrade if you want to stay with your config file
or take the maintaines version and you might have choosen the wrong
answer.
