I have just become the new maintainer of the uif Debian package. I am currently trying to investigate on the unclear upstream investigation.
I hope that upstream is still alive. You patch is definitely so invasive that have to make it available to upstream and see that it gets applied there.
If upstream is not alive any more, be prepared for the question if you are interested as a candidate for taking over...
