I understand perfectly. We are also reluctant to make our own libnss-myhostname packages in Debian Edu before we know which way the official package will be heading, so it would be great with some feedback soon. Our preferred solution would be a new upstream release addressing this issue that we could backport and put in our own APT repository. A useful alternative would be Debian specific patches in unstable - we would backport this too.
