Related to #503218, which I don't want to reopen, I again had the case of inkscape not opening a file with a libgc without --enable-large-config. I recompiled libgc and it worked. That's on x86 with 8G of RAM, so I'm ok with inkscape chewing 6G of it. Maybe it could be made the default on some architectures only? At least if it's a compatible change?
