Fair enough.  There's a lot of stuff in contrib/ and I haven't looked
at most of it, so I'll leave #704441 as a place for you to point
people to on the general question and concentrate further discussion
on the remote-helpers.

The remote-helpers are fairly new but have rapidly become quite
useful; they make it possible to clone a Mercurial or Bazaar
repository and push back to it, much like git-svn does for Subversion.
It'd be good to promote them to /usr/share/git-core and make them
executable, like the hooks.
