You are probably confusing ftpsync (the script) and "push-mirroring". The
latter consists of your upstream mirror triggering an update via SSH
directly at your mirror.

ftpsync can be used in both modes: pull (via a cronjob) and push (via an ssh
trigger). If you are interested in push mode, it will be easier if you first
setup ftpsync and then follow the instructions at the following page and
coordinate with your upstream mirror:
