In order to avoid possible security problems due to separately
maintained libpoppler and xpdf libraries, the approach chosen by Debian
is to fantasize about the APIs not having seriously diverged and deliver
a crashing binary.

A proposed patch that would cater for the diverged APIs is rejected
because of its size, the size being proportional to and catered to the
difference in APIs.

Dealing with a less than optimal situation by choosing to deal with an
nicer imaginary situation instead and calling "Somebody Else's Problem"
(TM) on the results of this discrepancy is not just ridiculous but
rather lunatic.

A really sad state of affairs.
